I am an artist printmaker, based at the Black Pig studio, Frome. I work in monochrome (linocut and wood engraving) and in colour (mixed media screen and monoprints).
Wood engraving and linocut incorporate a unique combination of quiet meditative mark making with the wild excitement of pulling the first proof. Mixed media screen and monoprints go straight to the thrill phase of printmaking.
My work explores hybrid spaces where the tenacity of nature disrupts the permanence and impositions of human constructions. My subject matter is an exploration of environment in motion. Interrogating where the structure and fabric of construction is decaying as nature flows over into culture, and the relationship between what we make and what the earth reclaims is revealed.
I'm Deaf, so I utilise an awareness of space to make sense of the world. Being deaf leads to enhanced visual processing in the periphery. My work tends to reflect this attendance to a greater field of focus. I'm drawn to the disruptions and entanglements of the environment.
