FARM SUPPLIES SERIES
Every farm has a pile of stuff that may be needed one day. It looks like a pile of scrap, but it is often reused or repurposed. But while it waits, the vegetation and the earth creeps in and starts to reclaim it.
This is a series pf prints based on discarded farm supplies that are being encroached upon by nature.
Broken gate (2024), image size 30x42cm, edition 25, £100
When a gate breaks it often seems to be dumped with a pile of other stuff. Eventually all the scrap metal is gathered into a skip, but the bramble and nettles cover it completley first.
Farm useful one day (2024), image size 42x30cm, edition 25, £100
I'm not even sure what some of the things are, there are feeders and old batteries, but the standard pipe thingy is a mystery.
Caution Wet Floor (2024), image size 42 x 30cm, edition 25, £100

Farm Supplies (2023), image size 42 x 30cm, edition 25, £100
The ever present farm tyre pile, with pipes, gas canister, containers etc, etc, but the grass and the nettles are moving in.
EAST SOMERSET RAILWAY
The East Somerset Railway at Cranmore is full of old rail trucks and bits of track on the sidings, which the brambles and nettles are slowly enveloping. Go and visit, it's a great day out!
East Somerset Sidings Entangle (2023), image size 29.5 x 42cm, edition 25, £100
Underneath the truck the old pipe, sleepers and brambles are entangled as the natural environment mimics and absorbs the plastic, wood and metal.

My friend Guy thinks this might be the old smoke box that has fallen on its side.
East Somerset Old Rail Truck (2023) image size 29.5 x 42cm, edition 25, £100

Another old truck bed, still chained together, but not for long as the rust and the brambles creep in.
OLD BARNS
Having lived in a rural environment for most of my life, I have an enduring interest in old farm buildings that are slowly collapsing and being overtaken by nature.
Old Farm Building 2 (2022) image size 60 x 42cm, edition 25, £160
This corrugated barn has been converted into a studio, so it is in use, but is gradually being overtaken by the outside foliage.
Old Farm Building 1 (2022) image size 60 x 42cm, edition 25, £160
This farm structure, which is in a woods near where I live, has a collapsed roof so the skyline of saplings can be seen again.

My friend's barn, is a great assemblage of different materials that have been repurposed by various owners.
No you can't go in there (2022) image size 60 x 42cm, edition 25, £160
I really wanted to go in there, but particualry liked and heeded the handprint sign, which inadvertenly translates in British Sign Language to 'halt'.
Breach Barn (2023) image size 60 x 42cm, edition 25, £160
Another rural structure from the woods near where I live. This one has collapsed, and as the corrugated roof and walls rust is now being reclaimed by the earth.
STAND ALONES
Ribes Uva-crispa (gooseberry) (2023) image size 21 x 30cm, edition 5, £50
I was thinking of doing some botanical studies so this one might turn into a series.
Rolling Back (2021) Image size 38.4 x 50cm, edition 12, £50
From a photo of a steel factory. My grandad and great grandad worked in a steel factory in Sheffield. They worked on the steel rollers. When I printed this edition, as I rolled the ink and adjusted the press, then turned the big wheel on the press, I thought of them and how they used to tell me about rolling the steel.
Teasel (2021) Image size 20 x 15cm, edition 9, £25
Teasel heads are great, but I am not keen on the plant in my garden as it is a thug, so I created this print to remind myself of their worth.
JR Window (2020) image size 49.5 x 44cm, edition 7, £100
Based on a JR photograph of the inside of an old building.
Paris Roofing (2020) image size 50 x 50cm, edition 5, £70
This is based on a view out of a minute balcony from an appartment that I stayed in in Paris.
Hide and Seek (2019) image size 8x10cm, edition 3, £25
A small linocut that was created and selected for the Bath Open Print 2019 at 44AD Gallery, for the theme Hide and Seek (I can be literal at times!)
